Although Apple’s URL Access version 2.3 system extension has been available for installation through the Software Update control panel since earlier this month, Apple has finally released a separate file suitable for download from their Web site.
URL Access is a system extension that provides software installed on your Mac with the ability to perform Internet-related tasks. Among other things, Mac OS 9’s built-in search utility “Sherlock” utilizes URL Access for its Internet search capability.
URL Access 2.3 provides improved access to secure sites that are either new or current sites using new certificates, according to Apple. It also corrects issues with downloading or pushing files greater than 360K.
URL Access 2.3 is available for both North American and Internation English versions of Mac OS 9.0.4 or higher.
Apple’s Web site was updated with a new page for URL Access 2.3 yesterday, but the page was pulled because of a faulty link. The Web site has since been restored with a functioning link that will enable users to download URL Access 2.3 if necessary.
