Arco Computer Products will use next week’s Macworld Expo in San Francisco to introduce the Macintosh edition of DupliDisk II, which it bills as “the first hardware based IDE RAID solution for the Macintosh from Arco.”
DupliDisk II is a true hardware-based IDE RAID controller that features background rebuilding capabilities, hot-pluggable drive solutions, a native PowerPC utility for option control, and support for Mac OS X.
Arco explains that DupliDisk II is the first IDE RAID controller for the Mac that does not require a PCI connection — instead, it connects directly to the onboard IDE connector on some Mac models’ motherboards. The unit is designed to support IDE RAID level 1 technology.
The DupliDisk II is designed to provide redundant storage capabilities for mission-critical Macs that must be up at all times. If a hard drive fails, the DupliDisk II will switch operations to the known working drive and will alert the user using audible and visual signals, according to a recent press release. The user can then, at their leisure, replace the failed drive and re-mirror them in the background without needing to turn off the Mac.
Arco will be present at the Moscone Convention Center at next week’s Macworld Expo, at booth 2532. Please visit the company’s Web site (link above) for more details.
