It was only a couple of weeks ago that Panic introduced a major new revision to Audion 2.0. Since then, though, the team has been able to produce a new version, which was just released as Audion 2.1. The new revision sports a variety of bug fixes and incorporates some new features as well.
Audion 2 is a Mac MP3 audio application. The software enables users to both encode and decode MP3 files, which have become a popular way for Internet users to share music. Audion sports a variety of different useful editing tools, such as the ability to display and edit MP3 files as waveforms; apply crossfades; link playlists and more. Audion also sports features users expect like support for faces and visualizations, the ability to listen to different sound files (including Audio CDs) and much more.
Audion 2.1 incorporates more than 30 changes from the previous version. Audion 2.1 highlights some of the following features:
An AIFF encoder, helpful if your goal is to prepare audio files for burning to CD;
an SID decoder (in case you like to listen to music produced for the venerable Commodore 64);
Improved CD playback features;
An improved control strip module;
Audion 2.1 requires a PowerPC 604 or better equipped Mac and Mac OS 8.1 or higher. A separate version for OS X was being worked on but was not available for download as we went to press with this article.
