Brother Industries Ltd. announced Friday two new Mac-ready laser printers, including what the company is calling the world’s first 16 page per minute (ppm) laser printer under US$600.
The HL-1650 has built-in duplex printing capabilities, which allows for automatic printing to both sides of a page and features a 1200×600 dots per inch (dpi) resolution. In addition, the printer comes with 8MB of memory with parallel and USB connectors. It retails for $599.
The network-ready HL-1670N at $749 includes many of the same feature of its single-user counterpart in addition to 16MB of RAM, IrDA printing, PostScript 3 support and optional 10/100 TX ethernet interface (Mac Postscript Level 3 use requires 10/100 TX Ethernet).
The HL-1650 is expandable to 136MB of memory, while the HL-1670N goes up to 144MB of RAM.
Both printers are expected to begin shipping late this month, the company said.
