The Extensis Product Group took advantage of Macworld Expo San Francisco this week to announce that their Suitcase and Portfolio products are now available in Desktop and Network editions.
“As we’ve steadily been adding more sophisticated network-oriented and cross-platform capabilities to our products, we didn’t want our existing customers to think that we’ve forgotten their needs,” said Kerry Kelley, senior vice-president of products and services for Extensis Products Group. “These new introductions are intended to acknowledge and support our customers that work alone or in small studios.”
Portfolio 5 Desktop Edition is aimed at people who need to organize a large number of image-rich files, such as digital camera users. The standalone application can catalog and organize photos, clip art, movie and audio files, and more. Users can customize thumbnail borders, create full-featured slideshow presentations, and even preview every page of multi-page documents.
Portfolio 5 Network Edition includes all of the above functionality, but also allows workgroups and enterprises to manage their digital assets in visual catalogs. In short, the Network Edition features the same functionality as its predecessor, Portfolio 5. Users can connect and share files across the network and across the web, and data can be imported from other systems into any number of customizable fields. An advanced search that can search through multiple catalogs and do internal searches to find text inside of graphical documents is also included. Portfolio Server 5.0, available separately, further expands Portfolio’s capabilities by allowing for connectivity with existing SQL databases, for much larger, more powerful databases.
Suitcase 9 Desktop Edition lets users preview, organize and activate fonts in a simple and speedy manner. Fonts can be organized in sets that are based on anything from the type of font to the name of the project the fonts are being used for, and the type sample pages Suitcase 9 Desktop Edition can create provide printouts of fonts sets with important information about the individual fonts.
Suitcase 9 Network Edition provides users with the same font management features as the Desktop Edition, with added connectivity and sharing capabilities useful to workgroups. Users can synchronize fonts and every kind of file placed in the Server Font Folder — including graphics, photos and text files, and workgroups can share these fonts and files across local area networks or around the world.
All four titles are immediately available. Portfolio 5 Desktop Edition is listed at an estimated street price of US$99.95, and Portfolio 5 Network Edition’s estimated street price is $199.95. Suitcase 9 Desktop Edition has an estimated street price of $79.95, with Suitcase 9 Network Edition coming in at an estimated street price of $129.95.
