Intego Corp. has introduced an Internet filtering software product, a personal firewall product and an upgrade to VirusBarrier at MacWorld Expo in San Francisco.
ContentBarrier 1.0, a US$50 Internet filtering software, allows parents to select or customize specific categories of potential danger; log Internet usage; control access days and times; and receive email alerts when certain activity occurs.
ContentBarrier works with multiple users at different filtration levels and has a high-performance content filter engine for sophisticated filtering. In addition, the product can limit access by day or time.
ContentBarrier also supports the new version of Intego’s NetUpdate, the automatic software update engine. Users can program updates for specific days and times, and NetUpdate will check the Intego server to find out if updates are available for all of Intego’s Barrier products installed on your computer.
NetBarrier 2.0 is a new version of its personal firewall software that protects and monitors all incoming and outgoing data. A customized mode allows you to create your own defense rules, offering the most secure level of protection.
New security features in NetBarrier 2.0 include control of unwanted Internet cookies, banner ads, and spam; the ability to filter personal information sent when connected to a web site; updates to the program’s Firewall settings; gauges to monitor data traffic by protocol or application; and log exporting.
NetBarrier 2.0 is $59.95.
VirusBarrier 1.5, a new version of its antivirus program, provides protection against all known viruses and also protects against Word and Excel macro viruses. New features of VirusBarrier include scanning of compressed files to check all types of archives recognized by Stuffit Expander; Turbo Mode makes scanning from 5 to 40 times faster; a Contextual Menu module for quick scanning; Self-protection to ensure that VirusBarrier doesn’t get infected; scanning of RAM after detection of system viruses; and faster manual scans.
VirusBarrier 1.5 is compatible with Mac OS 9.1 and retails for $49.95.
Internet Security Barrier, a total Internet security suite for the Macintosh, includes NetBarrier and its three powerful modules: Firewall, Antivandal, and Internet Filter and VirusBarrier, its antivirus program. It retails for $100.
