SAS Institute has announced its support for Mac OS X for StatView and JMP statistical analysis software. The company is demoing the beta version of StatView Version 5 for Mac OS X at this week’s MacWorld Expo in San Francisco.
StatView packs data management, statistical analyses, and presentation tools into a single package. JMP software is an “industrial strength” data analysis package.
OS X versions of StatView 5 and JMP Statistical Discovery Software are due later in the year. (SAS hasn’t given a firmer date.)
“We recognize the commitment our customers have made — and continue to make — in running JMP and StatView products in the Macintosh environment,” said John Sall, cofounder and senior vice president of SAS, in a press announcement. “And we plan to support JMP and StatView on Mac OS X as it becomes available.”
He said that JMP and StatView developers began working with Mac OS X early on through Apple’s Developer Premier program and demonstrated a beta version of JMP 4 running on an early developer’s preview version of Mac OS X at Macworld New York in 1999. Both products have been available on the Mac for over a decade.
