Mac game publisher Aspyr Media has announced that it will bring Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 to the Mac later this year. The radical skateboarding game has been licensed from Activision and is current in conversion at the studios of Westlake Interactive.
Originally developed by Nersoft and Grey Matter, the game is published for the PC by Activision. The Mac version will join conversions already available for the PlayStation, GameBoy Color and Sega Dreamcast.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 takes virtual skaters to some of the most legendary skate spots in the world — the new game also features all of the levels in the original title. USers can play as Tony Hawk himself or as twelve other real-world pro skaters, including Steve Caballero, Eric Koston, and Rodney Mullen. For the first time, players can also build their own virtual skater from scratch, too.
Players can perform a huge array of tricks, include nose/tailslides, nose/bluntslides, varial flip, and a multitude of new grabs, expanded inverts, lip tricks, nollies and manuals. The game also features realistic crash animations like knee slides, pole wraps, board breaks and wall splats.
The game also features 2-player modes such as trick attack, graffiti, tag and horse.
Aspyr expects to be making more details available about the game soon — for now though, Mac gamers interested in finding out more are encouraged to visit Activision’s Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 Web site.
Aspyr is also using Macworld Expo to show off other titles in development. The company is giving show goers a chance to get their hands on Escape from Monkey Island, the first title that Aspyr has licensed from LucasArts. The game is currently being ported by Westlake — the lead programmer is Jesse Spears of Harpoon 3 fame. MacCentral recently interviewed Spears to discuss his progress on the conversion and other work.
Aspyr made its mark early in the Mac game community by bringing Eidos Interactive’s legendary Tomb Raider series to the Mac, and the company isn’t letting up yet — work has begun on Tomb Raider: Chronicles, the latest title to feature adventurer Lara Croft. A release schedule for the new game is still to be determined.
