French game developer MacRun Games hopes to make a splash with their first title. It’s called Captain Bumper, and it may appeal to players looking for some 16-bit console-style side scrolling action.
“[MacRun’s] aim is to create video games exclusively for our favorite computer: the Mac,” says founder Richard Soberka. Soberka describes the company’s first release, Captain Bumper, as “a cartoon-style game of skill aimed at a wide audience.”
Captain Bumper is current in late development, and will be released as a downloadable commercial game when it’s completed at the end of March. Right now, though, Mac gamers can download a two level demo version of the game from MacRun Games’ Web site.
Captain Bumper harkens back to the side-scrolling arcade games popularized by 16-bit video game console systems in the 1990’s. In it, you assume the role of Captain Bumper, a spaceship-flying hero who must repel the forces of an evil alien menace to save a princess.
Sure, the plot is pure cheese, but it’s a good old-fashioned shoot ’em up extravaganza featuring colorful graphics and eye-catching animations, custom sound and music, and rapid-fire game play.
