REAL Software has announced the winners of its Cubie awards — and added a category in the process. Cubie awards honor the best products made with REAL’s REALBasic. REALBasic is the visual, object-oriented BASIC development environment for the Mac.
Choosing the winners was difficult because so many developers submitted entries, according to Product Manager Lorin Rivers. Winners were:
The Overall category was too close to call, Rivers said. The judges couldn’t decide between these two, so a tie was declared between Auto-Illustrator by Ade Ward and WhistleBlower by James Sentman.
“We are proud to see so many fantastic applications, custom classes, and plug-ins submitted for consideration,” said Geoff Perlman, president and CEO of REAL Software. “Choosing winners from over one hundred entries was a challenge, but we think we picked some great examples that demonstrate the skill of our users and the power and ease-of-use of REALbasic. I’m already looking forward to next year.”
Each winner in the seven categories will receive these prizes: UNI SOFTWARE PLUS GMBH: VOODOO Personal 2.0; Aspyr: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force; a one-year subscription to MacTech Magazine; a one-year subscription to MacAddict Magazine, which will also make the winning products available on the MacAddict CD; a coupon worth 10 percent off at Developer Depot; an Active PowerBook or iBook bag; and a free upgrade to REALbasic 3, Professional edition.
“I want to take an opportunity to thank our generous co-sponsors for providing prizes in addition to the free upgrades we are offering,” Rivers said. “Of course, a huge thank you to all the contestants, and I must say I have new respect for the judges of other contests.”
REALbasic is available for US$149.95 for the Standard Edition and $349.95 for the Professional Edition packages, direct from REAL Software. REAL Software offers academic and volume discounts, as well as license-only options. In addition to US English, REALbasic is available in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Japanese. A special Swedish package is also available and version 3 will ship in Russian, as well.
