RedHawk Vision has announced a new Mac-compatible version of Video Pics, an Adobe Premiere Plug-in which enables users to extract high-quality photographic prints from video. The software was previously only available for Windows, but a Mac version should be ready by Feb. 5.
Video Pics generates high-resolution still images from any video source material. The software extracts clear images from noisy video by using multiple frames of video, reducing noise, and enhancing image color, detail and resolution. The images, 3+ megapixels in size, can then be edited using Photoshop or other image editing programs. An example comparing Video Pics output and source video material is available for download from RedHawk’s Web site.
RedHawk Vision also provides professional image processing services and forensic image processing for law enforcement and security surveillance. The company was founded in 2000 as a subsidiary of Irvine Sensors Corp., created to exploit technology originally developed by the parent company for NASA and USAF image processing.
Video Pics retails for US$695. System requirements call for Adobe Premiere 5.x or later; any Power Mac with a FireWire port; 256 MB of physical RAM; Mac OS 8.5, 8.6 or 9.x; image editing software, such as Photoshop; and an Internet connection.
