Apple has released a software update for owners of new Power Mac G4’s equipped with internal Apple CD-Recordable drives. The Disc Burner 1.0 software has been released for users of the International English version of Mac OS 9.1.
Apple’s Disc Burner software was first unveiled to crowds at Macworld Expo in San Francisco earlier this month. The software enables Mac users to master single-session CD-R’s using the familiar desktop icon paradigm. Users simply drag and drop files and folders onto the desktop CD icon. The CD-R is then written to using a new Burn command from the Special menu.
This is dramatically different than the methods that Mac users have had up until now, which depend instead on the use of third-party mastering software that is in some cases not as intuitive or easy to use as the click-and-drag method.
This release follows Apple’s original release of Disc Burner, for North American English Mac OS 9.1. That software update was made earlier this month.
Disc Burner is specifically for users of Power Mac G4s that came equipped with Apple-installed internal CD-R drives — new models which just began shipping this month. Users of third party CD-R drives should continue to use the software that came with their drives.
