ZipBurst 2.1 CGI Lite and Pro from Dantowitz Consulting & Research now supports Mac OS Personal Web Sharing, the Web server that’s built into every copy of the Mac operating system.
ZipBurst can be used to set up a database that can replace FileMaker Pro or other database software on your Web site with or without distance or location-based options, according to Dantowitz. The company also offers services for setting up a distance or location-based search page for your Web site.
The Lite version will search an unlimited number of databases, searching fields (text, numbers, and dates). The US$99 Pro version adds location-based searches to the mix. You can enter in a ZIPcode, city, state, city and state, or an area code. Both U.S. and Canadian locations are supported.
Plus, in 2.1 the folks at Dantowitz have added more tags, support for nested tags (e.g. tags in arguments for tags) and improved performance, according to MacTech Magazine.
The upgrade for current 2.0 users is free. What’s more, Dantowitz is promising “special pricing” this week at its “special pricing” page. ZipBurst requires Mac OS 8.6 or later.
Dantowitz also offers ZipServe, a database hosting service. In addition to hosting everyday database searches, ZipServe also offers distance or location-based services, enabling a web-visitor to search by US ZIP code, Canadian Postal codes, or city, state/province, or area code. Shared ZipServe hosting costs start at $35 per month for U.S. ZIP codes and $75 a month for U.S. and Canadian Postal Code searches (for 15,000 searches per month).
