The folks at Dacons have released .launch.it, a utility that lets you store any file name and its path in a FileMaker Pro field using a FileOpen dialog. The file and its parent application can be launched from within FileMaker.
This plug-in is a small solution to a big problem, according to Dacons. With it, you can manage your files with your existing FileMaker solution. This can be helpful if you would like to link certain files on your local personal computer or your network/intranet to records of your database, the added. For example, you can store all corresponding files for one customer (i.e.: Word document, Excel file, etc.) in a customer database. And you can find, open, and organize documents related to that one customer.
The filters which let the user only select certain files using the FileOpen dialog can be customized through .launch.it’s preferences. This function, currently only available in the Windows version, will be available for the Mac “soon,” according to Dacons.
You can grab a trial version of .launch.it for Mac at the
Dacons Web site. It’s available in single user, network and developer licenses starting at US$25.
