Prosoft Engineering has offered new point upgrades to its Data Rescue utility for Mac OS X and “Classic” Mac OS. The company said that the speed of data recovery has been improved in the new versions by 100 percent.
Data Rescue provides users with data recovery capabilities, rather than hard disk repair, according to Prosoft. The utility analyzes your hard drive to look for your data, then reassembles them and stores them in a safe location. The software recovers icons, dates and file hierarchy in addition to the file itself. It does all this leaving the data on the original disk untouched, in case further recovery should be necessary.
The secret to the improved performance, said Prosoft, is with a new RAM utilization technique. What’s more, the new versions now feature a “Scan File” option that allows you to save the results of your scan to help speed up additional recovery in the future. The new versions — 10.2.1 and 4.2.1 (for OS X and “Classic” OS respectively) are available for download from the Web site.
In related news, Prosoft’s Data Recycler X has also been updated to v1.0.4. Data Recycler is a utility that enables you to recover files that were intentionally or accidentally deleted.
