Avid subsidiary Digidesign has posted an update to its popular Pro Tools digital audio production software for Mac OS X. The new version, 6.0.1, is now available for download from the Digidesign Web site’s Support section. There’s more, too, including drivers to support Mac OS X’s CoreAudio technology and a new MIDI I/O driver.
Digidesign is recommending that all users of Pro Tools 6.0 upgrade to the new point release — the new version fixes dozens of problems with the initial Mac OS X-compatible version, which was released in March.
What’s more, a separate download is available for users who want to employ Pro Tools with third-party software that supports Apple CoreAudio. CoreAudio technology in Jaguar offers a system-level way to manage MIDI services, among other things. Depending on the hardware and application, users can record and playback multiple channels of 24-bit audio up to 96kHz, according to Digidesign. You’ll need Pro Tools 6.0.1 in place to use the driver.
Last but not least, Digidesign has released a MIDI I/O driver update for Mac OS X and Mac OS 9. The new version resolves a firmware problem and improves general performance. The update is recommended for all Digidesign MIDI I/O owners using Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X; Mac OS 9 users who already have downloaded and installed MIDI I/O driver v1.5 don’t need this update.
