Contour Design Inc. will announce the ShuttleXpress multimedia controller at next week’s National Association of Broadcasters conference. Due next month, the device will have a recommended retail price of US$59.99.
Modeled after the ShuttlePRO, the ShuttleXpress is built for audio/video editors. It provides one-hand access to five programmable buttons and a jog/shuttle knob. The inner ring, or “jog,” rotates through 360 degrees and provides precision frame by frame control. The outer black ring, or “shuttle,” is rubberized and spring-loaded. It’s designed to facilitate fast forward and rewind. You can also use the jog and shuttle for other purposes such as scrolling, volume control, and sequencing.
The ShuttleXPress and ShuttlePRO will both be getting new driver software and more pre-programmed application settings. The new software also features a new user interface and support for multiple devices. Additionally, Contour will release new pre-programmed settings for additional audio and video applications, including Final Cut Express, Illustrator 10, PhotoShop 7, Cubase SX, Nuendo 2.0, and more. The ShuttleXPress software is compatible with Mac OS X (10.1 or later) and Mac OS 8.6-9.x.
