Mac game publisher Aspyr Media — a name that’s been in the news a lot lately this week, with announcements regarding Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4, BloodRayne, and NASCAR Racing 2003 Season — decided to finish off the week with a bang by releasing a demo of their forthcoming game Medal of Honor: Spearhead.
Medal of Honor: Spearhead is the hotly anticipated expansion pack for last year’s popular World War II-era first person shooter, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. The add-on takes players to the last year of World War II, from Operation Overlord to the Battle of the Bulge and the fall of Berlin.
Medal of Honor: Spearhead features nine new single-player levels, more than a dozen new multiplayer maps, new weapons, new soldiers and more. The game’s new multiplayer maps are augmented by new multiplayer modes, too — the new multiplayer game modes emphasize more team-based multiplayer action and team objective-based gameplay.
Aspyr’s project status Web page lists the full release of Medal of Honor: Spearhead as at the Beta development milestone. The expansion pack is expected to ship in May. It is currently being developed by Westlake Interactive.
System requirements for the demo call for Mac OS 9.2.2 or later; G3/733MHz or faster; 192MB RAM (256 for OS X) and ATI Radeon, Nvidia GeForce2 MX or better graphics acceleration with at least 16MB of video memory (32MB recommended).
Although the retail version of Spearhead will require the full version of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault to work, this demo will run on its own. The demo version includes two multiplayer maps: Malta and a “Tug-of-War” map called Druckkammern. You can download the 135.7MB demo from Macgamefiles.com or MacUpdate.com.
