If you’ve been thinking about buying an Apple Xserve RAID but you don’t have a 19 inch rack mount to install it in, XtremeMac has a solution for you: The XtroVERT. The device is a vertical tower enclosure designed especially for the Xserve.
The XtroVERT features an extruded aluminum pedal that extends the full depth of the Xserve RAID, designed to support the 100lb. weight of a fully-loaded Xserve RAID. A special base plate is coated to prevent scratching the Xserve RAID, and a steel cover offers some added protection and increased rigidity. Rubber strips running the length of the bottom of the pedestal also protect from scratches and isolate the RAID from vibrations.
XtremeMac President and CEO Gary Bart said that the XtroVERT has been designed to house an Xserve RAID on the floor under a desk or elsewhere out of the way.
XtroVERT is anticipated for delivery in June for US$299. It’ll be available through Apple’s online store and through XtremeMac resellers, as well as direct from XtremeMac.
If you’re at this week’s NAB 2003 show, look for XtremeMac’s XtroVERT in Apple’s booth and the ProMax booth. NAB 2003 runs from April 7 – 10, 2003 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
