In its continuing coverage of new and upcoming Mac games, Apple’s games site has profiled Worms Blast, the new action puzzle game brought to the Mac by Feral Interactive (and distributed in the US by MacPlay).
Worms Blast is an offbeat variation on the popular Worms franchise in which you control a worm (or other character) who pilots a boat and uses a variety of weapons to shoot down multicolored blocks floating above. You must match the color of your ammunition to the color of the blocks to get them to disappear. It’s sprinkles a bit of Tetris together with a bit of Snood or Bust a Move, and adds some original artwork, sound and music.
“It sounds simple, but there are many variations on this basic gameplay model that keep you on your toes. During some levels, for example, you might not want to destroy any blocks at all because of the objective involved. When you reach other levels, you may be required to destroy only certain-colored blocks,” writes Brad Cook.
With solo or multiplayer action (from the same computer) there’s a lot to keep players busy in Worms Blast: Nine characters to choose from, 60 missions, eight head to head modes, and more than 20 weapons and gadgets to play with.
