LANDesk Software will improve LANDesk with added support for Mac OS X 10.2 and Mac OS 8.x-9.x in the second quarter of this year. The product was developed for corporations that need to centrally manage Mac OS-based machines along with other platforms in their networks.
IT administrators can manage a variety of Macs and Wintel systems from the same LANDesk Web-based or Windows console. Mac systems appear in the network view and can be included in software distribution, inventory support and remote control.
A new aspect of LANDesk’s support for the Mac is the ability of Mac OS X machines to be inventoried and targeted for software distribution. Distribution features such as drag and drop scheduling and status reporting are available to IT managers.
LANDesk allows managers to scan inventory information on Mac systems with a new inventory scanner that collects data, including USB, FireWire and PCI device information. Inventory queries and reports can be run to accumulate data on the hardware and software in a networked environment.
LANDesk’s improved remote control performance on Macs now has virtually no latency, according to LANDesk Software. The distribution solution makes all these features available from a single Web console run in most browsers, including Apple’s Safari.
