Intaglio 1.0, a new drawing and illustration application for Mac OS X is now available from Purgatory Design. Purgatory’s release of Intaglio 1.0 follows an earlier public beta release.
Patterned after the original Mac drawing applications, Intaglio uses Mac OS X technology like Quartz 2D graphics, Apple Type Services, AppleScript, ColorSync, and the QuickTime image layer. All graphic operations within Intaglio are fully AppleScriptable and recordable. Intaglio creates text effects and offer access to font variations, such as those provided in multi-master fonts. It also offers access to such font features as ligatures, vertical position, letter case, and alternate characters.
Intaglio uses ColorSync to calibrate all colors used within graphics and maintains any color profiles embedded in bitmap graphic image files. Each drawing has a default color space and maintains ColorSync profiles for each color space used.
Mac OS X’s Quartz 2D graphics environment allows the drawing program to do things such as allowing arcs retain their geometry (they aren’t converted to curves) so their angles and radius can be changed. It also makes possible graphics features such as arbitrary 2D transformations like scaling and rotation, clipping, antialiasing, opacity, pattern and gradient fills, and PDF import/export.
Intaglio uses the QuickTime graphics layer for importing and exporting bitmap images. This means the app can import and/or export over a dozen image formats and will automatically support new formats as QuickTime is updated.
Intaglio requires Mac OS X 10.2 (“Jaguar”) and costs US$89. However, for a limited time Purgatory Design is offering it for $59.
