Middleware maker OpenLink Software Inc. has released Virtuoso 3.0, a new version of its cross platform “virtual database” designed to integrate SQL, XML and Web services data sources. Virtuoso 3.0 is available for Jaguar, as well.
Virtuoso supports the creation of dynamic XML documents in real time from ODBC and JDBC data sources, and can create Web services from existing SQL stored procedures, Java classes, C++ classes and C functions. The software integrates a WebDAV-compiant file server as well, along with a content replication and synchronization server, mail delivery and storage server, and an NNTP server.
Following a lengthy beta test that began earlier this year, Virtuoso 3.0 is available now, for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and Unix. Pricing is determined by which package your enterprise chooses and how many users per server CPU you plan to connect. A 30-day evaluation version is available for download — it requires Mac OS X 10.2 or higher.
