The Omni Group has released two new versions of OmniGraffle, its Mac OS X diagramming and drawing application. OmniGraffle 3.0 and OmniGraffle 3.0 Professional are now available, and both require Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar.
Both versions add new features designed to aid users in creating charts and drawings, like “smart guides” for precise placement of graphics and a complete redesign of the Info architecture which makes it easier to see what’s on the inspectors, easier to hide and show tools, and easier to arrange them.
A new Style & Selection inspector has been implemented, and the Shadows inspector has been rebuilt. The Image inspector allows more complex shadow rendering schemes, and the Image inspector allows you to offset images inside a shape by dragging them. There’s much more, too, including the ability to drag network folders into OmniGraffle while maintaining all icon and hierarchical content.
OmniGraffle 3.0 also implements a new caching architecture to improve performance, better AppleScript support, better support for importing OmniOutliner files, and improved Selection tool and more.
OmniGraffle 3.0 Professional adds even more capabilities, including import and export support for multi-page Visio 2002 XML files, and the ability to export multiple pages as a multipage, linked HTML document.
The Pro version also features “mouseless editing” or Brainstorming Mode, advanced editing capabilities, multi-page document support and the ability to have multiple editing windows. ColorSync Workflow & Proofing is now supported, and pattern support has been added to the Apple color picker. There’s more too.
OmniGraffle 3.0 costs US$69.95. Upgrades from previous versions costs $24.95, including versions bundled on certain Macs. OmniGraffle 3.0 costs $119.90, with upgrades available from OmniGraffle 2.0 and 3.0. Visit the Omni Group Web site for more details.
