After debuting the game for Mac users at Macworld Conference & Expo this past January, GarageGames and 21-6 Productions have at last released Orbz 2.0. A major update to the game, this is the first version to run natively on the Mac.
A 3D action game, Orbz 2.0 puts you in charge of a sphere, or orb. you must make your way through 14 different courses as you rack up points by shooting your orb at targets. The game is action-packed and challenging, and non-violent to boot — the sophomore effort of the same independent game publisher that recently brought to Mac the game Marble Blast. Both games are published under GarageGames’ Blast label.
Orbz 2.0 is a major update to the early development version shown to Macworld Expo attendees in January. The game now features a single-player mode absent from that early build — computer-controlled opponents called Botz now populate the Orbz world. Three new courses have been added and 15 new orbs can be chosen from.
The single-player mode enables users to play through progressively more difficult challenges in which you must score points and win Bronze, Silver and Gold medals, tracking your score against that of other Orbz players around the world. You can also unlock new orbs with unique powers.
System requirements call for a G4, 64MB RAM, OpenGL-compatible 3D graphics acceleration, and Mac OS X 10.1 or later. It costs US$14.95 to register. You can download the demo from MacUpdate.com.
