Nisus Software has made available a public beta release of Nisus Writer Express, the new Mac OS X word processor.
Based on the company’s long time Mac word processor, Nisus Writer, the new version has been rewritten from the ground up in Cocoa (Apple’s advanced, object-oriented development platform) to take full advantage of the “advanced technologies of Mac OS X both now and into the future,” according to Nisus Software President and CEO Jerzy Lewak.
Nisus Writer Express sports a new and customizable interface that’s designed to capitalize on Mac OS X’s Aqua interface. It offers support for plain text, RTF (Rich Text Format), and Unicode support. Nisus Writer Express is fully scriptable (AppleScript, menu-based, and Perl macros) and can open and save as Microsoft Word documents.
Such long-time Nisus Writer features such as multiple, editable clipboards, non-contiguous selection, enhanced find and replace, and user definable keyboard shortcuts are present. And Nisus Writer Express also supports the “classic” Nisus file format support.
Nisus Writer Express requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later. It will cost US$59.95 when the final version is released. Licensed users of Nisus Writer 6.0 and above can buy it for $34.95.
