Real Software Inc. has updated REALbasic for Macintosh, the development environment, to version 5.1.
Version 5.1 adds enhancements “that improve product reliability and performance,” according to Real Software. RealBasic 5.0 was released in February and is compatible with Mac OS X, as well as Mac OS 9.x. See our October 1, 2002 article for details.
Version 5.1 is a free update to registered users of version 5.0. For others, REALbasic 5.1 costs US$99.95. The REALbasic 5 Professional Edition, which is required for cross-platform compilation, starts at $399.95 and includes extended functionality for database and team development. However, Real Software is offering special introductory pricing ($299.95) on the Professional Edition through May 28.
