The Los Angeles ProTools Users Group will have their first meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at Universal City. Details are available at the group’s Web site.
ProTools is audio recording, editing and mixing software. Version 6.0 for Mac OS X, announced last October, boasts a new, streamlined look for the Mix, Edit, and Transport windows. There’s also now multi-user log-in functionality, a new DigiBase file management utility, enhanced MIDI functionality (including hi-res groove templates), additional Beat Detective features, new Import Session options, plug-in functionality enhancements, MachineControl additions, and more.
ProTools Users is a new organization started to bring together users of Digidesign’s Pro Tools hardware and software in the Los Angeles, California, area to “create a wealth of knowledge, expertise, networking opportunities and information exchange for the benefit of its members and the audio community.”
The regular meetings will normally involve a talk or presentation from a member of the group or an expert from the audio community, followed by a question and answer session. Afterward, there will be smaller training workshops and discussion groups. Admission to meetings and events is free, but on a members-only basis — but membership is free.
ProTools Users has negotiated special discounts with resellers and manufacturers of audio gear and services for its members. There are an estimated 10,000-plus ProTools users in the LA area.
