Wolfram Research has released A New Kind of Science Explorer: Mathematica Kit, a science kit that operates within the environment of Mathematica, Wolfram’s calculation and math visualization tool.
NKS Explorer: MK offers over 450 different types of experiments with an “essentially infinite number of variations,” according to Wolfram. Visual representations of the experiments can be generated; users can also access the underlying data generated by the experiments. This data can then be analyzed with functions from Mathematica’s library — or you can further manipulate the results with Mathematica’s symbolic programming language.
Since Mathematica is a programming language, the functions in NKS Explorer: MK can be incorporated into larger structures. You can create graphics or other representations for a large number of cases or subcases. NKS Explorer: MK also lets you document, organize, present and share your efforts using Mathematica’s notebook document format.
A New Kind of Science Explorer: Mathematica Kit costs US$50 and runs on any platform that Mathematica 4.0 or higher is available. That includes Mac OS X and Mac OS 8.6-9.x.
