MacMice has released an PodPerch clear acrylic dock for Apple’s third generation iPods.
The US$19.99 device is a clear acrylic dock, made from Acrylite brand acrylic, that cushions the iPod with an array of clear, soft plastic pads. Functionally, the PodPerch is designed to put the iPod at the low angle best suited for reading the LCD display.
With many people using their iPods in more than one location, at the Mac, at a home stereo, or at the office or workplace, there’s a need for a desk stand or dock in addition to the free dock Apple provides, according to MacMice President Jack Campbell. When he got my own new 30GB iPod and set it up next to his keyboard, he realized the angle of the Apple dock was too steep to make reading the display easy; it needs to be more inclined.
“Also, I realized that the Apple dock was perfect for setting up permanently at my stereo system, and just leaving it there, which leaves me without a stand for use at my Mac system,” Campbell told MacCentral. “So we chose to fix the problem by building a pretty, clear acrylic stand that is at a lower angle than Apple’s dock, has the need bottom cutout for the dock connector cable, and can be used as a second (or third) resting spot for an iPod at the computer, or at work or other location.”
