SubRosaSoft, Ltd. has released SMARTPanel 1.0, a utility for Mac OS X that alerts you of a potential hard drive failure by taking advantage of the Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) that’s built into most modern hard drives.
After you install and launch SMARTPanel, it can be set to an icon and “sit” on your desktop to monitor your drive every five minutes and check for upcoming problems. When a potential problem is detected, SMARTPanel will let you know via an on-screen alert.
SubRosaSoft SMARTPanel is now available for US$24.95. It requires Mac OS X 10.2 or higher.
