American Power Conversion has expanded its Back-UPS line of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with the introduction of the Back-UPS RS 1000VA and 1500VA units. These new family members offer more outlets, Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), and a longer runtime.
They also offer enough power protection for more than one computer, including two 21-inch monitors and several peripherals. Plus, an extra battery pack can be added to the 1500VA unit to triple the runtime capabilities.
The Back-UPS RS provides battery backup and surge protection that includes data line protection. The units’ AVR feature supplies consistent power to your system during over-voltage or brownout events. They offer eight outlets, six of which offer surge protection and battery backup, and two of which provide surge protection for non-data peripherals such as printers and scanners. Four of the eight outlets can accommodate transformer block-shaped plugs.
The Back-UPS RS models come equipped with USB connectivity and include APC’s PowerChute Personal Edition software, which is compatible with Mac OS X. They come in a tower form and offer mounting for either floor standing or as a (2U) shelf mount under the monitor on the desktop. The Back-UPS RS uses rechargeable batteries and has an Equipment Protection Policy of US$150,000.
The Back-UPS RS 1000 unit will supply up to 90 minutes of runtime for a typical computer system; the Back-UPS RS 1500 will supply up to 120 minutes. The former has a suggested retail price of US$249.99, while the latter is priced at $299.99. Both are now available from APC.
