Independent game publisher GarageGames and its development partners have already brought three commercial-quality boxless games to the Macintosh this year — Marble Blast, Orbz 2.0 and ThinkTanks. Now the company has taken the wraps off its fourth Mac-bound title — Tennis Critters.
Tennis Critters mixes “classic old-school tennis” action with a dose of comic cartoonery, in the form of big-eyed fluffy-tailed chipmunks. Tennis Critters gets a big dose of arcade action with multiple difficulty levels, and special moves including topspins, slices, lobs, volleys, dives and smashes. You can play on two different courts and compete to win three different tournament cups.
What’s more, you’ll be able to play against the computer or cooperatively, and against other human opponents in singles and doubles matches. You all can either share a keyboard or joysticks on the same machine, or play against each other over the Internet. The game features a built-in Internet game creator and browser, and adjustable game speed options.
Tennis Critters is the creation of Nerd Riot Games, which used GarageGames’ Torque Game Engine to bring Tennis Critters to life. The Torque Game Engine is a flexible 3D game development engine that is available for inexpensive licensing.
GarageGames’ ThinkTanks debuted on the Mac first, and this time it’s the Windows platform’s chance to shine — Tennis Critters is available for the PC first. It costs US$19.95. Nerd Riot and GarageGames said that the game will soon be available for Mac OS X and Linux, so look for a downloadable demo soon.
