Prosoft Engineering has released an enhanced version (10.2.1) of their data recovery tool, Data Rescue, which purportedly speeds up the data recovery process by 100 percent or better.
Data Rescue analyzes your entire hard drive looking for your data, re-assembling your files (including icons, dates and file hierarchy) and storing them. The application can recover this data while leaving the original disk untouched. For emergency use, Data Rescue ships on a bootable CD.
Prosoft says the speed increase in version 10.2.1 is possible due to a “breakthrough” RAM utilization technique. The update also incorporates a Scan File option, which lets you save the results of your scan in order to recover additional files in the future.
Data Rescue X version 10.2.1 is free to current users. For new users, the cost is US$89.95. It requires Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher.
Prosoft has also updated Data Recycler X, a utility for preventing accidental file deletion, to version 1.0.4. The update is designed to be used in conjunction with Data Rescue 10.2.1.
Data Recycler offers two levels of protection: System Wide Protection and Users Trash Can Protection. Data Recycler also includes the E.W.S. Disk Monitoring System that monitors your hard drive, warning you of impending problems before they affect you.
Version 1.0.4 is a free update for registered users or is available with Data Rescue X with special promotional pricing. Otherwise, the price is US$49.
