Storage peripheral maker WiebeTech LLC is offering its first FireWire 800-equipped external disk drive enclosure, the Fire800. The company is offering a “0 GB” do-it-yourself model for people who want to add their own drive mechanisms, and is also offering the drive in capacities from 120 – 250GB.
The fanless enclosure comes equipped with two FireWire 800 ports, a FireWire 400 port, and a USB 2.0 port. It also comes with a copy of Mac Drive 5, utility software that enables a drive with Mac partitions to be viewed and used on a Windows PC. The drive is compatible with ATA-6 drives in higher capacities, too.
The Fire800 ranges in price from US$169.95 for the 0GB model to $549.95 for the 250GB model. 120, 180, and 200GB variants are also available — all are expected to ship next week. All drives are 7200RPM mechanisms.
The Fire800 ships with a vertical stand, 9 pin-to-9 pin connector; FireWire 800 to 400 cable; 6 pin-to-6 pin FireWire 400 cable; USB cable; and AC adapter.
