ViewSonic Corp. has introduced the US$4,999, 42-inch VPW450HD, the latest edition to the company’s HDTV-ready plasma product line. Compatible with both Macs and PCs, the VPW450HD features DVI, S-Video, component, and composite video connections.
With a native resolution of 1024×768, the VPW450HD supports HDTV, Enhanced Definition Television (EDTV), and standard TV. It boasts a contrast ratio of up to 1000:1, a brightness level of up to 1000 cd/m2, and viewing angles of up to 160 degrees.
The VPW450HD, which will go on sale next month, lets users simultaneously create, view, and customize picture-in-picture, split-screen, or full-screen windows for data, video, and TV signals. There’s a built-in tuner and progressive scan technology, of course, as well as integrated speakers that provide virtual surround sound capabilities.
A stand, remote control, and carrying case are also included. What’s more, the lightweight display can be attached to a wall or a ceiling with an optional mounting kit.
