SoftRAID LLC has announced that its SoftRAID 3.0 software for Mac OS X has reached its beta development milestone. The software was first announced this past January at Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, Calif.
SoftRAID supports non-RAID and RAID Levels 0 and 1, and works with FireWire, ATA, SCSI and Fibre Channel devices. The software can automatically rebuild mirror volumes and will automatically notify administrators of errors. Advanced features include I/O counts, disk error tracking, and conversion of “standard” volumes to RAID volumes. What’s more, if you’ve been using SoftRAID’s OS 9 product, you can update to work in OS X.
SoftRAID LLC now expects SoftRAID 3 to ship on July 25, 2003 — about a week after Macworld CreativePro Conference & Expo wraps up in New York City. The software’s suggested retail price is US$149. Anyone who bought SoftRAID 2.x as a retail product after August 1, 2002 can upgrade for free.
