The Greene County (North Carolina) Board of Education unanimously endorsed a plan Monday night that would provide iBooks to every student and teacher in the middle and high schools, according to a Kinston.com article.
Under the project, the school system will buy 1,783 computers for grades 6-12. Parents will be asked to pay US$50 to cover insurance costs for the machines, as MacCentral reported earlier.
Partial funding for the project will come from $125,000 in local funds. The school system is in the process of applying for grants totaling $1 million with another $2 million to be financed.
“School systems are lining up to do this,” Finance Director Harvey Gay told Kinston.com. “I would rather be first than down the line somewhere. Whoever does it first will be on the cutting edge.”
