Storage products maker Caen Engineering Inc. has announced that it has created a new subsidiary called CaenAV. The new group’s focus will be on high-end digital video and audio products, including solutions for Mac OS X. CaenAV plans specifically to offer fibre channel, SCSI and IDE RAID solutions for the Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) video markets.
CaenAV is starting out with 1 and 2GB Fibre solutions, along with SCSI and Fibre-to-IDE RAID controller-based systems tuned for high-bandwidth requirements needed for professional video work. The products have been qualified for use with Mac OS X, as well as Windows, Unix and SGI platforms.
Caen Executive Vice President Martin Calderwood calls the decision to spin off CaenAV “a natural progression” and added that the company already has more than two decades of experience as a provider of high-end storage peripherals to defense and IT sectors. “With the data requirements and reliability issues now faced with SD and HD video, we felt it was a perfect opportunity to leverage our technology for the high-end video market.”
Products now listed on the CaenAV Web site feature the Raptor 8HD and 12HD rackmount IDE RAID systems, the Fortress 14HD, which features 14 aluminum drive trays in a 3U rackmount enclosure, and the SANnet II Blade, Fibre and SCSI devices.
