Destineer subsidiary MacSoft on Wednesday announced that Unreal Tournament 2003 for the Mac is shipping. The game is expected to hit store shelves in the U.S. this weekend, with U.K. stores to get their supplies sometime next week. What’s more, Unreal Tournament 2003 for the Mac ships with some extras: The game includes the “Epic Bonus Pack” and the “Digital Extremes Bonus Pack.”
Unreal Tournament 2003 is the latest Mac installment of the popular first-person shooter series that last made its mark in the Mac space back in 1999. The game puts players in a sports arena of the future where gladiators take to battling each other with arrays of lethal weapons of explosive force. Unreal Tournament 2003 features both single-player action against computer controlled “bots,” or varied multiplayer modes that let Mac and PC users have at it over Local Area Networks (LANs) or the Internet.
Unreal Tournament 2003 was first shown to Mac users at this past January’s Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, Calif. Since then Mac action game enthusiasts have anxiously awaited the first person shooter. In May, a beta tech demo was released and was downloaded more than 400,000 times in the first four days.
MacSoft president Peter Tamte threw down the gauntlet to Mac gamers in making the announcement that Unreal Tournament 2003 is shipping for the Mac. “Since UT lets Mac players compete against Windows players online, this is a great opportunity for the Mac community to show Windows users how to play this game.”
Minimum system requirements call for a G4/700MHz or faster; 32MB video card; 256MB RAM and Mac OS X 10.2.6.
