MacMice Workspace Products Co. has introduced yet another product: the iBreeze, an acrylic cooling stand for PowerBooks that’s built to keep the laptops running cool.
The US$24.99 device is built from clear acrylic, has two low-speed fans, and is powered by the PowerBook’s USB port, eliminating the need for an AC adapter. There’s also a female USB passthrough port on the iBreeze, so you don’t lose the use of a USB port.
Instead of using one large, loud fan, MacMice used two small (60mm) ones that CEO Jack Campbell describes as “whisper quiet” with each operating at less than one-half their maximum rated speed. The iBreeze also sports clear polymer bumpers on its top face; they’re built to securely hold PowerBooks, including the 17-incher, in place and are tall enough to provide air flow space between the stand and the laptop. There’s also an on-off switch if you decide you don’t need the cooling function.
