Bare Bones Software on Wednesday announced the release of Mailsmith 2.0, the company’s email client for Mac OS X. The new version of Mailsmith adds integrated support for SpamSieve, PGP, and Apple Address Book, in addition to over a hundred and fifty other feature additions and refinements have been added to the application, said company President Rich Siegel.
SpamSieve is an application that works with many email clients to help users sort through the vast amount of spam or unwanted junk email on the Internet today. To setup SpamSieve, you need to run AppleScripts in the rules of your email client, but with the new version of Mailsmith, this is no longer necessary.
Options to turn spam filtering on and off have been added to the preferences of Mailsmith, as well as options on how to handle email once it’s been classified as a spam message. If you want to mark a message as spam (or mark a spam message as good) you can select the message and click the appropriate menu item.
“Support for SpamSieve is built right into Mailsmith, so if you already use SpamSieve your existing spam corpus will just work,” Siegel told MacCentral. “There are no scripts required, no configuration necessary, just download and it will work.”
A new version of SpamSieve was released Wednesday to work with the new version of Mailsmith.
Mailsmith 2.0 also adds support for Apple’s Address Book with auto-complete when you start typing an address into an email message. The new version also provides automatic support for encrypted and cryptographically signed email via PGP.
Mailsmith 2.0 is available at a suggested retail price of US$99. A discounted cross-upgrade price of US$79 is available to owners of BBEdit, and Entourage, Claris Emailer, Eudora Pro. Educational discounts and site license pricing are also available.
New Mailsmith licenses and upgrades purchased by July 31, 2003 will receive a free copy of SpamSieve. Registered users of Mailsmith 1.0 and 1.1 are eligible to upgrade to Mailsmith 2.0 for US$49.
Registered users of Mailsmith 1.5 automatically received a free upgrade to Mailsmith 2.0, which does not include a copy of SpamSieve.
