Adobe will release new add-on software technology — in the form of plug-ins — designed to maximize the performance of Photoshop 7.0 software on Apple’s upcoming Power Mac G5 systems. The free plug-in technology will purportedly allow Photoshop 7 to run twice as fast as the application running on any previous Mac.
The software enhancements will be offered as free downloads from Adobe’s Web site when Apple ships the Power Mac G5 systems. In his keynote address yesterday at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the machines would arrive in August.
“The future of Photoshop on the Macintosh platform is being geared around exploiting the power of Mac OS X and tapping the hardware performance of a new generation of G5 systems,” Greg Gilley, Adobe’s vice president of Graphics Applications Development, said in announcing the plug-in technology.
