KVM peripheral maker
has introduced the VGA Extender, which uses a single Category 5 networking cable to extend any VGA-equipped LCD or CRT monitor up to 150 feet away from the computer, while maintaining resolutions up to 1600×1200 pixels.
The US$299 interface comes with sender and receiver units, a six-foot VGA cable and a five-volt power supply. It’s designed to enable users to move display systems far away from the computer for use in hostile environments or other conditions where remote monitor connections are necessary, but it’s unfeasible to connect the computer up directly to where the monitor needs to be.
The VGA Extender joins Gefen’s line of Ex-Tend-It products — Gefen manufactures a variety of devices intended to make it possible to connect ADC, DVI and VGA monitors anywhere from dozens to hundred of feet away from their CPUs.
