CopyCatX 1.0, a US$39.95 utility for duplicating a Mac OS X drive, is now available from SubRosaSoft Ltd. It’s targeted to network administrators who need to deploy multiple drives with identical content, as well as anyone who wants to upgrade to a bigger drive.
Instead of the “file-by-file” copy used by most backup software, CopyCatX employees “device copying,” which purportedly retains all details of the original drive, from bootability to the icon locations. It also facilitates faster copying, according to Marko Kostyrko, SubRosaSoft’s founder.
CopyCatX requires Mac OS X 10.2 (“Jaguar”) or higher. It works with all Macs with G3 or G4 processors.
