Developer Charles Kelly has released four freeware AppleScripts to assist putting MacinTalk voices on an iPod or other MP3 player. (MacinTalk is Apple’s system level text-to-speech technology.)
“Three of the scripts are for getting text into MP3 files, which can be put on portable MP3 players,” Kelly told MacCentral. “There would be little need for these at your regular computer, since you can just use existing capabilities of Macintosh computers. While I don’t have the patience to sit in front of my computer listening to ‘audio books’ by a speech synthesizer, this is something I do while I’m jogging or driving.”
The fourth script will save the selected track names in iTunes and write MP3 files that announce the tunes. Though the intention was to use these files on an iPod as a DJ, the same files would also work in regular iTunes playlists, Kelly said.
