Following its recent release of a 240MB “tech demo” to give players a taste of Neverwinter Nights, Destineer subsidiary MacSoft has posted a new Neverwinter Nights Web page with more details about the forthcoming role-playing adventure game.
Neverwinter Nights is the epic RPG created by Bioware Corp., the same company behind the development of Baldur’s Gate. Set in the Forgotten Realms, Neverwinter Nights is a true 3D RPG set developed using D&D 3rd Edition rules.
It’s up to you to save the city of Neverwinter from a plague called the Wailing Death. Along the way, you uncover a conspiracy and you must defeat the forces that threaten the land. The game unfolds in four chapters with hundreds of quests — a total of 60+ hours of gameplay, according to MacSoft. You create your own character from eleven different classes, choosing what skills and abilities you’ll develop over time.
What’s more, you can also take the role of Dungeon Master, leading other players into multiplayer experiences of their own creation (although the Mac version of Neverwinter Nights lacks the Aurora Toolset needed for complete custom module creation, Mac players can still act as Dungeon Masters, populating levels with monsters and magic items, and more). The game supports up to 64 players at a time, either Mac or PC.
System requirements for Neverwinter Nights call for a 450MHz or faster processor, Mac OS X 10.2.6 or higher, ATI Radeon or Nvidia GeForce2 MX graphics card with at least 32MB VRAM.
MacSoft plans to ship Neverwinter Nights in July, and will soon be accepting pre-orders.
