Apple subsidiary PowerSchool today used NECC to unveil PowerSchool SIS v3.6, a Web-based student information system aimed at K-12 schools and school districts. The new version of PowerSchool adds features and is now optimized for use on Mac OS X Server.
PowerSchool v3.6 improves scheduling flexibility, and can now include matrix displays to help show student schedules across the term. Walk-in scheduling has been added, for enrolling students one section at a time. State attendance record management has been improved, and new features have been added to accommodate complex scheduling. And PowerSchool v3.6’s support of legacy data upgrades is also enhanced.
With the addition of Mac OS X Server support, the system is optimized to run on the Xserve, Apple’s 1U rack-mounted server solution. PowerSchool SIS itself is a Web-based application that is compatible with both Macs and Windows PCs running Web software.
PowerSchool plans to make the new version available later this summer. The company is also demonstrating its ability to transmit data using the School Interoperability Framework (SIF) specification at customer workshops taking place at NECC this week.
