Metrowerks has joined forces with REAL Software Inc. and SolidWave Software Inc. to create a bundled product designed to assist Mac developers boost productivity and speed time to market. It’s called, appropriately enough, the Productivity Bundle.
It includes REAL Software’s REALbasic 4.5 object-oriented rapid application development (RAD) environment, SolidWave Software’s RADicode 1.0 code converter, and Metrowerks’ CodeWarrior Development Studio (the Mac OS X Edition). The US$299 bundle is available for a limited time online.
ZeboPhoto
Bobby Cronkhite Software has released ZeboPhoto 1.3.1, a new version of the image viewer/editor program for Mac OS X and the traditional Mac operating system. In the update, the File Browser, Lissajous Creations, and System Information windows now sport the metal look under Mac OS X 10.2 (“Jaguar”).
Also, file visibility controls have been moved from the file browser to a drawer that can be accessed from a button on the browser. ZeboPhoto 1.3.1 is a free upgrade for registered users of previous versions. New users are asked to pay what they think the software is worth, with pricing options starting at $7.50.
FTP Suite
Pyramid Designs has updated FTP Suite, a set of classes and code modules that allows FTP operations to be implemented in REALbasic applications.
Release 2.1of FTP Suite adds the ability to rename files on a remote server. Multiple files, provided they are all in the same remote directory, can be renamed. It’s a free upgrade to all Professional, Hobbyist, and Source Code licensees.
The $59.95 Professional licenses allows use in any commercial product or in-house tool. The $29.95 Hobbyist license is for use in freeware or shareware programs. For information on the Source Code license, you’ll have to contact Pyramid Design for details. A demo containing a detailed programmer’s manual and demo program is available.
AppComposer
DigiSlice Corp. has announced version 3 of AppComposer, a visual development environment for assembling Java applications. It can quickly integrate components into full applications, including Web applications.
AppComposer includes a complete suite of component development and integration features, including a visual component editor, integrated Web server, servlet engine, debugger, scripting facility, and relational database. Version 3 fixed a couple of display problems with the Mac OS X version. A demo copy is available for download at the DigiSlice Web site.
LispWorks
Xanalys has brought LispWorks, the portable ANSI Common Lisp integrated development tool from, to the Mac platform. The CAPI graphical libraries are now implemented on top of the Cocoa API (application programming interface) in Mac OS X. LispWorks for Mac is available as a $999 Professional Edition or $2,999 Enterprise Edition. The latter Enterprise Edition includes Common SQL, LispWorks ORB and KnowledgeWorks. Both require Mac OS X 10.2 (“Jaguar”) or higher.
