Ableton’s Live 2.1 — which will feature full ReWire support for Mac OS X and Mac OS 9.x — will be available later this month.
Built for musicians, Live is an audio sequencer you can play like an instrument. It integrates multitrack recording and editing functionality, so you can play studio arrangements on stage or record live improvisations and edit them in the studio. You can also manipulate the speed and pitch of any audio while it’s streamed from disk. ReWire is a technology for transferring audio data between software applications — in real time; it’s the software equivalent of a multi-channel audio cable.
Live 2.1 brings full ReWire Master and Slave support, allowing the application to run with Digidesign Pro Tools 6.1 or any other ReWire application. It also supports Sound Designer II files, as well as Direct I/O.
Live 2.1 is a free update for Live 2 users. For new users, the cost is US$399.
